Cotton paper , also known as wipe paper , is made using cotton or cotton lint (cloth) as the main material. Important documents are often printed on cotton paper, as they are known to last for years without damage. Cotton paper is superior in strength and durability on wood-based pulp paper, which may contain high acid concentrations, and also absorb ink or toner better. Different grades of cotton paper can be produced.

Properties
High quality cotton fiber paper is known for the last hundreds of years without fading, discoloration, or deterioration, so it is often used for important documents, such as copies of dissertation archives or theses. As a rule of thumb, for each percentage point of cotton fiber, the user may expect a year to refuse damage by using (handling that may be subject to paper). Official document paper usually contains 25% of cotton. Cotton paper will produce better prints than photocopier paper because it is easier to absorb ink or toner.
Cotton paper is usually rated as 25%, 50%, or 100% cotton. Usually it can be checked by holding the cotton paper up to the light and looking right under the watermark for the number. 100% cotton paper may contain small amounts of acid, and must be tested or certified prior to use for archival documents.
The second cotton linters have a normal average fiber length of 1.45 Ãμm, and have the same properties as short soft wood pulp.

Usage
Cotton bonding paper can be found in most stores that sell stationery and other office products. Some cotton paper contains a watermark. This is used for banknotes in a number of countries. The banknotes are usually made of 100% cotton paper, but can also be made with a mixture of 75% or less of hemp. Other materials can also be used and are still known as currency papers .
High quality art paper is often made from cotton.
It has found extensive use as a printed circuit board substrate when mixed with epoxy resins and is classified into CEM 1, CEM 2 etc.
History
Cotton was first used with a silk mixture to make a paper called Bombycina Carta. In the 1800s, plant fibers such as flax or cotton fibers from used fabrics (rags) were the main source of ingredients. At the turn of the 20th century, most paper is made of wood pulp, but cotton is still used in special paper. Since cotton fabrics now often contain synthetic fibers, paper makers have switched to used cotton linters as a source of raw materials for making pulp for cotton paper.
