Drapery is a common word referring to fabrics or textiles (Old French draperie , from Late Latin drappus ). This could refer to fabrics used for decorative purposes - such as around a window - or for retail fabrics trade, initially mostly for clothing, previously done by merchants.

In art history, curtains refer to any fabric or textile depicted, which is usually clothing. The schematic representation of the folds and the woven pattern of loose clothing in human form, with ancient prototypes, is a redefinition in addition to the female form by Greek vasses painters and sculptors in the fifth century and is still the main source of formulas of style in painting and painting, even after Renaissance adoption of more-strict clothing styles. After the Renaissance, a very clear, pointless cloth was often used decoratively, especially in portraits in a magnificent way; this is also known as curtains.

For the Greeks, as Sir Kenneth Clark put it, attachment to the curtain follows the areas and contours of the body, emphasizing the twists and stretches: "floating curtains create a visible line of movement that has just been passed.... The curtain, by suggest lines of strength, pointing out for any past action and possible future. "Clark compares the formalized curtains in the frieze at Olympia with the fashion decorating statues of the Parthenon, where" he has achieved freedom and expressive power that has not yet never matched except by Leonardo da Vinci ". Uncommitted male figures, Clark said, "continue to be moved by their flying robes."
