Today
Currently, sport shorts are worn by teenagers every day in spring and summer. While some boys prefer shorts that reach the calves, most wear shorts that stop at the knees or just above, spreading style as fashion. The attractiveness of these knee-length shorts as the wear of warm weather diminishes as most adults find the limiting and counterproductive length of additional fabric in a truly active or competitive sport. A modern example of this departure was evident during the 2012 Olympics when the US men's volleyball team chose a more athletic-friendly thigh. The international volleyball federation (FIVB) now requires that the men's shorts have inseam at most 10 cm (3.9 inches). Short shorts cut shorts seem to be slowly returning to popularity for those who like the functionality of the above modes.
Many gym shorts have layers made of comfortable fabrics like cotton, similar to swimming shorts. It is designed to be worn without underwear. Short shorts pre-1990 remains a standard for men in running activities. Initially, sport shorts are worn by boys and men along with loincloths just underneath. Schools across the country require boys to wear athletes , also known as athletic supporters, for all sports/sports activities. It provides protection from the torsion testis, from their compaction between the thighs, and for the purpose of decency. Currently, many boys and boys wear shorts, boxer shorts, compression trousers, swimsuits or other standard underwear, even though a sports crop is now making a comeback.
