baseball cap is a kind of soft hat with a round crown and a rigid crest projected up front.
The front of the hat usually contains the sports team's design or logo (ie the baseball team, or the relevant company name, when used as a commercial marketing technique). The back of the lid may be "fitted" to the size of the wearer's head or may have a plastic, Velcro, or elastic and strip zipper, adjustable adjuster so that it can be adjusted to suit different users. The baseball cap is part of the traditional baseball uniform worn by the player, with a forward-facing edge to protect the eyes from the sun. Since the 1980s hat varieties have become common fashion accessories, especially in the United States.

Histori
In 1860, Brooklyn executives wore an ancestor of a modern round, round baseball cap, featuring a long peak and a button on it, and in 1900, the "Brooklyn style" hat became popular. During the 1940s, latex rubber became a stiffening ingredient in a modern baseball cap and hat was born. Peak, also known in certain areas as "bill" or "full", is designed to protect the eyes of players from the sun. Usually, the peak is much shorter in the early days of baseball caps. Also, hats have become more structured, versus "floppy" hats throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. The baseball cap is and is still an important means of identifying the team. Often logos, mascots, or early teams are placed on the lid. Typically, the hat is also made with the official color of a particular team.
The basic shapes, including curved tops, are similar to some of the nineteenth century sun hat styles.

Design
Paired baseball caps, which are without adjusters, are usually sewn in six sections, and can be covered with cloth-coated buttons (also called squatchees) on the knob. Grommet metal or cloth cord holes are often sewn or mounted near the top of each of the six sections of fabric to provide ventilation. In some cases, the back of the crown is made of a net material such as a net for extra ventilation. The peak is usually hardened by a piece of stiffened cardboard or plastic stitched.
Variations
Baseball caps are made of different types of materials and are shaped in different styles for different purposes. Big and small league baseball players wear classic wool-style hats (or, more recently, polyester) with their team's simple logo and color; logos are usually embroidered into the fabric. Recently there are brands that use materials that are not common for snapback caps such as wooden edges.
Previously, baseball caps only had standard cap sizes. Since the early 70s, they are also available in one size form for all, with a rope adjustment on the back. The style, commonly called snapback, has become increasingly popular as a fashion accessory. Advances in textiles have led to a "stretch-fit" cap, which uses Lycra or rubber to allow the hat to have the right style while still "adjustable" in size.
The front may be soft, or may be reinforced by buckram to display a clearer logo.
Another version of the baseball cap is a plastic mesh cap with the front foam printed with the company logo. This style is sometimes called a trucker's hat or "hat beri" because it is given for free as a promotional item.
Dad's hat is an unstructured hat with low profile, curved edges, and lines on the back.
There are 3 main baseball hats:
- Snapback hat - (headdress with snap back cover) with flat, high profile, customizable edge.
- Father hat - unstructured, low profile, curved, customizable.
- Installed hat - curved or flat hat, structured cap, high profile, not adjustable.
Use of athletics
Beginning with the 2014 season, MLB pitchers are allowed to wear special bonnet hats to protect their heads from the drive line.
Athletes wear other sports caps with their team logo and color as "side" caps; both of these types are also sold as authentic team merchandise at retail stores. Other hats may have a maker's logo, such as Reebok, Nike or Carhartt; these hats are often made of brushed cotton. Golfers tend to prefer sports visor forms that do not cover the head but make the sun invisible; women have also traditionally been wearing visors casually but trends in certain youth subcultures see an increased use of feminine from full caps.
Professional usage
Military
Some armed forces use baseball caps as part of their uniforms, including the United States Navy and Coast Guard of the United States. Used mainly with uniform utilities and shirts, baseball caps usually have a command logo on the front to show the affiliate commands. Baseball caps of certain colors are used to indicate a person's specific function or specific job. For example, in the style of a US submarine, a red baseball cap is worn by a drill monitor that facilitates and criticizes crew members during the exercise. In the United States Army, the parachute riggers wear red baseball caps and parachute instructors wear black baseball caps as part of their uniforms. In a range of additional United States Air Force squadrons, the squadron-specific baseball cap has been removed as a head cover (or "cover") for the Battle Clothes Uniform, usually featuring squadron, squadron squadron and squadron squares. Although BDU has its own cover, a patrol cap in M81 Woodland, some squadrons opt for more different blankets.
Police
In many US police forces, baseball caps are used as a more practical alternative to traditional hat hats or campaign hats, most recently used by the Sheriff's department and state police forces. This is more common on the West Coast, whereas in the eastern states the traditional peaked cap is more prominent. An important exception is the San Francisco Police Department, where topped caps are still worn regularly. In Slovenia, police on motorcycles wear baseball caps as part of their uniform, when they take off their helmets. Baseball caps are also commonly used by private security firms as cheap and practical uniform hats.
There is a marked trend in recent years among police forces and other uniformed bodies around the world to replace cheap and comfortable baseball caps for peaked hats and other traditional headdresses. In England baseball caps have the added advantage of being unisex and suitable for use by male and female officers. During the year 2017 Northamptonshire, Cheshire and Lancashire police forces adopted a specially strengthened baseball cap known as "Bump Caps", to replace the previously worn helmet and bowler cap. Finnish police used baseball caps ( seen on images in this link ), which are considered official identifiers and can not be used or even displayed by civilians, and have largely replaced traditional side hats. Many armed police units around the world, especially SWAT in the United States and the Metropolitan Police Specialist Commanders Command in the United Kingdom, often wear baseball caps to protect their eyes from the sun where full helmets would be excessive.
