Pathin is a wrap-around skirt worn by women from the Hajong tribe in Northeast India. It covers the top and bottom of the body from the breast to the leg calves. Women in the upper classes wear long pathins that fall to the floor while women in the lower classes wear shorts that reach the ankles.
Pathin is a strip of horizontal, colored, rectangular striped fabric with alternate layers of different colors between red lines called kan and a thick horizontal border called chapa . Pathins are woven by women in their family looms known as Bana or Tath. It is operated by hand and does not require the use of the feet. Modern Hajong women sometimes wear 'Patin' to cover the lower part of the body from the waist to the ankle that is similar to the Garo and Mizo tribe.
