The bow tie is a traditional type of tie. A modern butterfly tie is tied using a common shoelace, also called the bow node for that reason. It consists of a cloth band tied to the collar of the shirt in a symmetrical manner so that the two opposite ends form a knot.
There are usually three types of bow tie: pre-bonded, clip above, and tie yourself. The binding of a previously bonded bow is a bond in which a different arc is sewn into a ribbon that surrounds the neck and clip to secure it. Some "clip-ons" discard the band altogether, instead of clipping directly into the collar. Traditional bow tie, which consists of a piece of cloth to wear by hand, also known as a bow tie "own tie," "tie-own," or "freestyle".
Butterfly ties can be made of any fabric, but most are made of silk, polyester, cotton, or a mixture of fabrics. Some fabrics (for example, wool or velvet) are less commonly used for bow ties than ordinary butterfly bowls.

Popular perceptions tend to associate butterfly bowl wearers with certain professions, such as architects, financial revenue collectors, lawyers, university professors, teachers, servants, and politicians. Pediatricians often wear bow ties because babies can not catch them the way they can take a four-handed tie. Butterfly bonds do not easily fall into places where they will become dirty or where they can, either accidentally or intentionally, strangle the wearer. Clowns sometimes use large bow ties for their comic effects. The classical musicians usually appear in a white tie or black tie, both of which are bow ties. The butterfly bond is also associated with marriage, especially since they are almost universal in traditional formal attire.
The butterfly bond, or a slight variation of it, has also become a women's outfit, especially business attire. The 1980s saw professional women, especially in law, banking, and business, dressed in very conservative attire, with an increase of nearly 6 million units in sales. These are often worn with buttoned blouses, some with front folds like a tuxedo shirt, and accessories with a slightly more full bow tie than a standard butterfly tie worn by their male counterparts, but usually consist of fabric, color and pattern as a male bond.
Russell Smith, style columnist for The Globe and Mail, in Toronto recorded mixed opinions from a bow tie user. He observes that butterfly bonding has a potential comeback among humans, although "class-conscious people backtrack on the notion of" previously bonded butterfly bonds and "[l] eft-wingers"... "backwards to what they consider as a symbol of political conservatism. "He argues that, however, that anachronism is the point, and that bow-butterfly users make a public statement that they hate fashion change. Such people may not be economic conservatives, he says, but they are conservative social . In Smith's view, a bow tie is "a manifestation of propriety," an indicator of intelligence, and "an instant sign of nerddom in Hollywood movies," but "not a woman's sign" and "not exactly sexy." For this image he attributes the association of bow tie with newspaper editor (due to their cleverness with words), high school principal, and undergraduate English teacher. Most men, he observes, wear only a bow tie in formal attire.
Current
The four-handed tie is still more prevalent in contemporary Western society, it is seen most at business meetings, formal functions, school, and sometimes even at home. However, a bow tie makes a comeback at fun-formal events like dinner, cocktail parties, and evenings in town. Bow ties are often worn with clothes by those who try to convey a more formalized dress image, whether in a business or social place. The bow tie is still generally popular with men of all ages in South America, because it never goes out of fashion there.
Traditional opinions still do not deserve to wear anything but a bow tie with a dinner jacket.
The bow tie is also sometimes worn as an alternative to an ascot tie and a four-hand tie while wearing a morning dress.
The "black tie" dress code requires a black butterfly tie. Most military uniforms wear a bow tie.
Type
The one shown below on the right is one of the tied butterfly tie styles; there is also a clip-on that does not go in the neck but clips to the collar point. Wearing a bow tie that has been tied to formal occasions requiring a black or white tie dress code is usually regarded as carelessness, though on occasions like Prom School Leavers' or in which the participants may not have much experience wearing a bow tie. it's probably commonplace. When choosing a bow tie/free tie/freestyle, there are usually two forms available: "bat wings," which are parallel like cricket bats, and "thistle," also known as "butterflies." Examples of each can also be seen below. What is used is a matter of personal preference. Some other forms do exist; for example, Diamond Point, with pointed ends at both ends. It is a double-ended type, with both ends in shape, although sometimes bonds are tied to single-ended type, where only one end illuminates to give the form of batwing or thistle, and the other remains thin. To tie one of these requires careful consideration, to ensure a wider end finishes in a thinner front.

Some of the famous designers of the butterfly bond are Charvet, who created several new styles such as a cross between batwing and butterflies to Duke of Windsor in the 1950s, Duchamp or Paul Smith.
