Supima is a non-profit organization in the United States whose primary purpose is to promote the use of adult American Pima cotton worldwide and engage in quality assurance and research programs. Founded in 1954, it gets its name from pima superior .

Supima licenses about 400 factories, selected high-quality textile and clothing factories, and brands/retailers to use the trademark SUPIMAÃ,® . Members finance Supima's activities with payments calculated on a "per bale basis".

Other activities include:

  • research program to improve the quality of American Pima cotton
  • timely harvest and market information to farmers-members and licensees
  • ads in consumer and trade publications
  • presentations for customers in the United States and abroad
  • participation in major international shows and events
  • an annual design competition featuring top graduates from prominent US fashion and fashion schools exhibited during New York Fashion Week in September

Supima's Board of Directors consists of American Pima farmers from Arizona, California, New Mexico, and Texas.

Supima cotton production has increased from about 100,000 bales per year in the 1980s to over 800,000 bales in 2006. Over 90% of Supima's cotton is exported from the United States, the majority of these are for the manufacture of foreign yarn, finished fabrics, clothing, sheets and towels are re-exported to the United States for sale. The top five Supima cotton importers are China, India, Pakistan, Turkey, and Peru.
