Fearne Wood (born September 3, 1981), known professionally as his girl Cotton , is a British television and radio presenter, best known for presenting a number of popular television programs such as Top of the Pops and Red Nose Day telethons.

In 2007, she became the first regular female presenter of the Radio 1 Chart Show, which she co-hosted with Reggie Yates for two years. He went on to present his Radio 1 show, airing every weekday morning since 2009. He left Radio 1 in May 2015.

In 2007, Cotton presented the The Xtra Factor , an ITV2 spin-off from the main event. He hosted the event for a year before being replaced by Holly Willoughby for the following series. Since 2008, Cotton has performed as a team captain on the show comedy panel ITV2 Celebrity Juice with host Keith Lemon and team-mate team captain Holly Willoughby.

Away from presentation, Cotton has a variety of modes and home appliances on its own with online retailer Very.co.uk and supports several charities in her spare time.

Cotton was born in Northwood, London to Mick and Lyn Cotton; she has a younger brother, Jamie Cotton. His father was the inventor for shows like Live Aid and his mother working on alternative therapies. He grew up in Eastcote, Hillingdon in Middlesex and was educated at Haydon School. He's a pescetarian and an animal lover. He ran 5 miles at least three times a week, and has participated in several marathons for half a charity. Former BBC executive Bill Cotton (1928-2008) is a paternal grandfather's cousin. He is the son of famous entertainer and band leader Billy Cotton.

Cotton learns art at level A, the skill he uses when presenting his Drawing Your Own Toons series.

In August 2017, Cotton's ancestors were explored in the BBC TV UK series, Who Do You Think You Are? The stories of his ancestors reveal some mixed luck, but Cotton is happy to have found family history stories that he can pass on to his own children. The program reveals that one of his father's great paternal grandparents, Evan Meredith, is a Welsh coal miner who has served a prison sentence as a conscripted opponent at WW1 and later became a respected pharmacist. On her maternal line, the episode found her ancestor William Gilmour, from Northern Ireland, who sought to improve her fate in the world. Cotton is reportedly delighted that his family story has found a work ethic and encourages that he hopes to find in investigating his family roots.

Television

Children

Cotton started his career in 1996, at the age of 15, with the GMTV children's program in the morning The Disney Club , having won the competition for young talent to present the show. After, Cotton went on with the show and with his successor Diggit . He left in 2000, to concentrate on other projects with CITV, including Drawing Your Own Toons and Mouse , which aims to encourage children to use computers.

Cotton joined CBBC in 2001 to present the children's science program Eureka TV . From 2001 to 2003, he presented the Finger Tips, an arts and crafts program for children, which he dedicated with Stephen Mulhern. He then participated in CBBC's Sunday morning show, Smile and on The Saturday Show . She has also appeared on CBBC Only in America, with her best friend and fellow presenter Reggie Yates.

ITV

In 2006, Cotton presented the second series of Love Island with Patrick Kielty at ITV, taking over from Kelly Brook.

In 2007, he took over from Ben Shephard as host of The X Factor spin-off program, The Xtra Factor in ITV2. He presented it for a series before resigning to work in America. He replaced the following series by Holly Willoughby. He also presented The X Factor: Interactive DVD Game in 2007.

Starting September 5, 2007, Cotton co-hosted Holly & amp; Fearne Go Dating , a dating program with Holly Willoughby for ITV2. The show saw them trying to find a date for singles alone.

Since 2008, Cotton has performed as a team captain on the show comedy panel ITV2 Celebrity Juice with host Keith Lemon and team-mate team captain Holly Willoughby. Cotton took a short break from the program in 2013 while on maternity leave and during the ninth series, Kelly Brook stood up for him.

He also presented the Isle of Wight Festival 2009 at ITV2 alongside Rufus Hound.

Since 2009, Cotton has organized Fearne and... on ITV2. In 2012, Cotton hosts The Nation's Favorite Number One Single, a three-part series, revealing British No. Favorites. 1. Since 2016, Cotton comes with Fearne & amp; Gok: Off The Rails , along with Gok Wan for ITVBe. In March 2017, Cotton guests presented five episodes of the ITV Breakfast program Lorraine .

BBC

In 2003, Cotton moved into the main broadcast. He along with Simon Grant (co-presenter of The Saturday Show ) presented the top of the Pops: Saturday (later renamed Top Pops: Reloaded ) that year. In 2004, she moved to workplace with Reggie Yates on the main program, Top Of The Pops (the main leading chart for the BBC) to be one of the last regular presenters for the program, which ended in July 2006. Due to other commitments, he can not present the last show himself, appearing instead in the short film featured on the show's head, where he makes his personal separation. Cotton and Yates presented one-off Christmas and New Year specials in both 2008 and 2009, as well as special Comic Relief in 2009.

She has organized part of Red Nose Day telethon for Comic Relief (2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011) which brings together a few strands together with Jonathan Ross and Lenny Henry.

Cotton has also brought many charity telnet to Comic Relief and Children in Need on BBC One and BBC Two. In July 2005, she participated in the BBC coverage of Live 8 at Hyde Park. During the event, British pop star and former Take That member Robbie Williams, playing with him in front of the camera, caused much speculation in the media at the time, but was later rejected by both. In 2008, he hosted Strictly Come Dancing specifically as part of Children in Need.

In June 2012, Cotton was one of the BBC's presenters for his coverage of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant. Cotton guests presented The One Show on BBC One for two nights in November 2013, two nights in February 2014, one night in March 2014 and one night in March 2016.

He also presented a Friday night eviction program that year for the reality television series Channel 5 Make Me A Supermodel .

Cotton host Sky1 talent search Must Be The Music for a series in 2010.

AS

In 2008, Cotton moved to the United States to host The Guinness Book of Records - Live . Cotton later hosted the NBC reality show Last Comic Standing . Cotton is also seen making special appearances on the show Katie Price and Peter Andre, where she is seen in the prize room before the Oscars.

Eurovision Song Contest

Cotton has presented part of the BBC coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest.

On May 20, 2006, he read the British voice at Eurovision Song Contest 2006 , held in Athens, Greece.

On March 17, 2007, he, along with Terry Wogan, hosted Making Your Mind Up 2007, the event to decide which song the UK sent to the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki, Finland. On that night, after the final "sing-off" between the two remaining games, Wogan and Cotton simultaneously announced a different winner. Since Wogan is a more experienced presenter, it is assumed that he is right. In fact, Wogan has unintentionally announced the wrong artist, Cyndi, as the winner. Cotton must keep repeating the correct name until the confusion is resolved. The Scooch group was quickly proclaimed the right winner but came only second from bottom in the main competition, just avoiding the Nile Points. Cotton also presents an English voice at the event itself, held in Helsinki, Finland on May 12, 2007.

Radio

BBC Radio 1

In September 2005, he joined BBC Radio 1 to present a Friday morning slot with Reggie Yates, who had previously worked with him on CBBC, Only in America and Top Of The Pops . Since October 14, 2007, Cotton and Yates have presented BBC Radio 1's Chart Show , taking over from JK & amp; Joel, who has left the station. Cotton later became the first permanent female presenter of the BBC radio show. (Jo Whiley had preceded her as the first female presenter of the Official Top 40 UK, as it was then called, but presented only once, on November 24, 2002.)

On July 16, 2009, it was announced that Cotton would be the new presenter of the BBC Radio 1 mid-day show during the day, taking over from Jo Whiley. The new program starts on September 21, 2009.

On February 27, 2015, he announced that he was pregnant with his second child and that he would leave BBC Radio 1. Clara Amfo replaced Cotton in 2015, taking over the show mid-morning. The Cotton final is broadcast on May 22, 2015.

BBC 2 Radio

Cotton joined BBC Radio 2 in July 2016 standing for Graham Norton with former Spandau Ballet bassist Martin Kemp on Saturday morning (10Ã, am -1Ã, pm) while Norton took his annual summer vacation. Fearne covers for Ken Bruce October 24-28, 2016, in 2017 on February 13-17, 3-7 and 10-14 April, May 11, May 29 - June 2 and October 23-27, and in 2018 on February 14-16. Fearne also covered Chris Evans on the Breakfast Show from April 9-13, 2018.

August 2017 saw Cotton collaborate with Mini Club, a children's clothing company selling through Boots stores and their website, to produce their own clothing. She publishes her range across her social media accounts, posting photos of herself and her daughter wearing a line from the collection.

Personal life

Cotton told Friday Night with Jonathan Ross that he had eleven tattoos on his body, the most famous being fern leaves, covering his right hip to his ribcage.

Cotton was dated skateboarder Jesse Jenkins who applied for his 29th birthday. However, the engagement was canceled and the couple split up nine months later. Cotton began dating Jesse Wood, the son of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood. On August 8, 2012, Cotton announced she was pregnant with her first child, and on February 21, 2013, she announced on Twitter that she had given birth that morning to a son, Rex Rayne Wood. Wood and Cotton married in July 2014. On 27 February 2015, Cotton announced that he expects his second child as part of his announcement that he left BBC Radio 1. On September 9, 2015, he announced on Twitter that he had given birth that morning to a child woman, Honey Krissy Wood.

Cotton is a good friend with fellow TV presenter Holly Willoughby, with whom he performed several performances. Cotton and Sarah Cawood act as two bridesmaids at Willoughby's wedding to Dan Baldwin on August 4, 2007.

It was reported in the press on July 21, 2009, that when presenting Radio 1 Chart Show two days earlier Cotton has been the target of threatening text messages. These messages have been sent through the SMS station listening service and seem to be associated with Cotton taking over Jo Whiley's show. Cotton was driven home after the event by police escort and a 21-year-old man was arrested and charged with harassment.

Charity

Cotton supports a number of charities including CoppaFeel !, Post Pals, Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need, and Red Nose Day.

In 2009, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, with Ben Shephard, Gary Barlow, Alesha Dixon, Ronan Keating, Denise Van Outen and Chris Moyles, and members of Girls Aloud Cheryl Cole and Kimberley Walsh. Cotton and others collapsed from altitude sickness during a five-day climb. He was in the first group (with Van Outen, Shephard and Cole) to reach the top and help boost  £ 3.3m. Cotton made a movie for Comic Relief about malaria. He visited a children's hospital in Uganda where he witnessed a small child in pain from malaria. Cotton had to walk out of the room and faint as he did so but was able to continue shortly afterwards. The boy died. Cotton also recorded his voice for BT Speaking Clock to raise funds for Comic Relief. In 2011, she appeared in an all-in-one swimsuit after viewers of Hour End Red Day Hydration Day Alan Carr donated more than Ã,  £ 1M to charity through over 100,000 text messages in less than an hour, joking that she felt he looks like a 13 year old boy.

Criticism

After more than 4,000 complaints made about the BBC's coverage of Diamond Jubilee in the summer of 2012 and in particular the criticism of Cotton's role, he replied on Twitter by stating, "The adult man who made me fall in the article/online is a big bully. and would not do it if I was not proficient in that... Im [sic] from working-class families and had worked hard to get where I was today.These other people would just sit and do except the judge. "
